Wake-Up PAKISTAN: Call for STUDENTS’ SEXUAL HARASSMENT Rights

While working on my grad-thesis, centered on comparing sexual harassment policies of the universities in the United States and Pakistan, interestingly I came across many alarming facts. While, Title IX by the US is well-known to provide much needed protection to the students, by at least requiring all educational institutions to have a well-disclosed sexual harassment policy, contact information of the designated expert, procedure to deal with such scenarios, penalties for the proven accused, protection for the victim, and the right to pursue this issue if not satisfied from the institution's decision. In contrast to the aforementioned students' rights, there is no such initiative or any policy enacted by the government of Pakistan.

After meeting the administrators from two large public sector universities, it became evident that most institutions have only a Disciplinary Committee (DC), which is brought together on as-needed to deal with these crucial issues. The structure and functioning of this aforementioned DC is solely designed by the respective institute, as there are no rules and regulations presented or imposed by the Pak government.

Being alarmed from the universities' current need-based procedure, I went to the Ombudsman Office for Women Harassment to inquire on any in-place or prospective public policies. But unfortunately my shocked position further elevated, as I was very confidently told by their representative that (my only hope) the Act for Women Protection at Workplace-2010 is applicable only to the employer and employee relationships…not the students. The universities are not considered the workplace for students because they are not making any earnings from there, instead are paying to receive intended services. Furthermore, I was told that their office has at least made three attempts to contact the higher officials to expand the 2010 Act to include students, but in vain. Which clearly implies that Pak government is either reluctant to deal with this issue, or is considering it to be simply not that important!

Having said that, it should be apt and clear that the government’s silence cannot make its citizens stop! Instead, students and the society should make collaborative efforts, and be vocal and loud on this very intimate issue, as it directly correlates to our comfort, progress, and survival.

Last but not the least, enough has been said on personal and official grounds to prove and support the sensitivity of this immediate-attention-requiring stoical stigma. Now it’s the high time for the Pak government administrators to galvanize all necessary reforms to guarantee the much-needed protection for their students, who undoubtedly are our future.

I really wish that my this article can add the final spark to this already flaming issue and can motivate the authorities to break-free of any apparent resistance and guarantee safe campus life!

Korean Dramas: Key to an INFINITE World

Ani, aniyasa, kamsamida, unni, abba, sarangae, sunbae, etc…might be misspelled but are some of the few words that got added to my limitevocabulary solely because I watch uniquely innovative and lively Korean dramas. It might sound weird but the fact is I feel short of words to express my love and admiration for these dramas. Their story, rom-com element, sets, acting, styling, fashion, dialogues, portrayal of relationships, (sorry if i missed anything)…everything is so great that no one can avoid praising them enough!

My first ever K-drama was My Princess, which kind of ignited a chain-reaction and till today I am pleased to be hooked to them. Besides all the extravagance and showcase of their glam world, my praise is leveled on their super-inquisitive factor, which often is new and propels me to Google. For example, their historical dramas, like Faith inspired me to read their history and know their beginnings. Recently, Kill Me Heal Me, a psychological thriller with the right tinge of rom-com dwelled me into the world of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

What else to say, K-dramas also enlightened me with the K-pop culture and as a result, now I have some of their OSTs added in my playlists. Furthermore, they also broadened my vision on being multi-talented, as 99% of their actors or media people (especially young) are mastered on three or four skills, like acting, signing, directing, writing, modeling, etc, as Ku Hye Sun (Boys Over Flower famed girl). Moreover, their school based dramas like School 2013 truly depict their studious, knowledge centered, and striving for excellence culture. No doubt, Koreans are hardcore workaholics, which really becomes apparent by noticing the active lifestyle of their older generation.

Last but not the least, being an Asian, besides the food, which I also started to admire, be it be their world-renowned Kimchii and Kimbibap, I can truly relate myself with the true to life portrayal of relationships. Elders' stubbornness & dignity, their definition of self-respect, regime bound household, limitations set by rules and regulations, respect for women are just the few out of many examples depicted in their dramas. I must acknowledge, they truly define and defend a joint-family system along with respect for the elders.

WOOOH….after praising so much, following is the list of some of my favorite/well-known K-dramas: Boys Over Flower, Secret Garden, Gong, My Love from Another Star, You are Beautiful, Heirs, Full House, Playful Kiss, Rooftop Prince, Heartstrings, Coffee Prince, Master’s Sun, Its Ok That’s Love, City Hunter, Healer, Prime Minister and I, Emergency Couple, Dream High…and my recent ongoing favorite She Was Beautiful

…my list of course continues, but by the time you finish watching them..you will also, just like me, become addicted and would be able to pick your next choice. So fasten your seat-belts and ignite your ride into an infinite world!

[Trust me you won’t regret]

INTRO

Since I am entitled to SAY...my initials, I'll try to calm myself by freeing all my thoughts, ideas, views, reviews, queries, and suggestions, just like these paper lanterns, which don't have any destination, nor any specific path...all they know is to 'rise and shine', while collectively lighting a dark sky. Similarly, following their unmarked foot-steps, I aspire to brighten our lives with useful writing...while endorsing that 'a sentence is just a beginning to a mental or verbal discussion.'

Thus, let's embark on a hopefully never ending journey to my Say-World, where we'll be always accompanied by my....let's discover :)
